And in creating this list of entertainment’s top female leaders, editors considered portfolio sizes, series loads, TV ratings, awards hauls, deals, employees overseen, revenue/profit generated, subscriber counts and what box office there was to report.

Yang Bongiovi and Forest Whitaker’s Significant has a winning track record of championing fresh stories from original auteurs, from Fruitvale Station to Sorry to Bother You and, in January, Rebecca Hall’s directorial debut, Passing. It sold to Netflix for $16 million after premiering at a virtual Sundance. Financing for the film, which explores colorism in a friendship between two women, was led by AUM Group, the film fund Yang Bongiovi launched in 2020 with several Asian American film and tech leaders.
