Fortissimo Films has picked up international sales rights to "Miao Miao," a Taiwanese multi-sexual drama produced by Wong Kar-wai's Jet Tone Films and J.A. Movies (H.K.).
Pic is the feature helming debut of Cheng Hsiao Tse , an acclaimed short-film director. Warner Bros. will release it mid-November in Taiwan with Golden Scene distributing in Hong Kong at the end of the month. The film garnered a Best Leading Actress Golden Horse nomination last week for actress Chang Yung-yung.
Jet Tone plans to release a series of films based on the 'Miao Miao' shooting model centred on subjects important to young people, and "expand the possibilities of the world of film." Pic is edited by Wong's regular collaborator William Chang Suk-ping.
"We are thrilled to bring this new wave of Taiwanese cinema to the world stage. 'Miao Miao' highlights the multilayered and multi-sexual texture of Taiwan's dynamic youth culture," said Michael J. Werner, co-chief of Fortissimo.
Fortissimo will open the pic for sales at the AFM, handling territories outside Hong Kong, Taiwan, and China
